Biography

Born in Tokyo, she began studying piano at an early age, played French horn in her elementary school brass band, and switched to trumpet in junior high school. She quickly showed her talent, winning prizes at national competitions.

Upon entering Waseda University, she joined the university’s music circle. After graduation, she studied trumpet under Masahiro Makihara and jazz theory under Hidefumi Toki, while beginning her professional career performing at jazz clubs in Tokyo.

In addition to leading her own quartet, she also served as the leader of “Marine Sailors,” a band formed for the yacht race Tamori Cup, hosted by Japanese TV host and comedian Tamori.

Her debut album, PASSION, was released in December 2015. In 2016, she held a monthly live series at Blues Alley Japan in Meguro, Tokyo. Alongside her regular leader performances at renowned jazz clubs such as Roppongi Alfie, she formed the duo Muratanaka with pianist Naoko Tanaka, releasing Selfie in October 2017, which gained nationwide popularity. In August 2019, Muratanaka released their first major-label album, School of Jazz, from King Records.

Since February 2020, she has been performing as a touring band member for singer MISIA.

In 2021, she self-produced and released the quartet album - 'Tis Love, celebrating its release with a concert at Marunouchi Cotton Club in July.

In 2025, she released her second album on her own label, In the Mood for Chet.
