Fernando Castillo is a Grammy Award Winner, three-time Latin Grammy Winner and a Dove Gospel Award Winner. He is a highly seasoned trumpet player who has played and recorded with some of the biggest names in the industry including Jason Mraz, Kelly Clarkson, Gary Clark Jr., Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Zac Brown Band, Stevie Wonder, Englebert Humperdinck Luis Fonsi, Tom Cochran, Rob Thomas, Colby Colliet, Christina Perri, Billy Bob Thornton, Poogie Bell, Suicidal Tendencies, Luscious Jackson, Trey Anastasio, Blues Traveler, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Willie Nelson, Ozomatli, Salvador, and Don Henley, Warren Haynes, Josh Abbott, Bob Scneider, Bruce Robison, Greg Boyer.
Fernando has won many prestigious awards, including a Grammy in 2010 with Jason Mraz for "Make it Mine", two Latin Grammys in 2012 with Jesse and Joy for Record of the Year and Best Contemporary Pop Album, 2005 Latin Grammy with La Mafia for Best Group Album, a 2004 Dove Gospel Music Award with Salvador for Spanish Language Album of the Year and is a seven-time award winner for "Best Horn Section" by the Austin Chronicle.
Fernando is also a writer and composer and has written music for MTV's "Pimp My Ride," MSNBC's "American Made," and Broadway's "A Prelude to a Kiss." The song "CopChase" landed on the Live Jason Mraz album "Beautiful Mess" and later "Dancing with the Stars" which was performed live on the show.
Fernando grew up watching The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson and dreamed of one day playing TV shows. He has proudly played the Tonight Show starring Jay Leno with Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, and Gary Clark Jr. He has also played The David Letterman Show, Conan, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, and the Today Show. Additionally, one of his career highlights was receiving the privilege of playing Saturday Night Live with Jason Mraz and special guest Steve Martin.
