Biography

Dr. Bret Steed is a freelance trombonist and music educator primarily serving the Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas areas.  A native of Idabel, Oklahoma, Steed holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Ouachita Baptist University.

Steed’s professional playing career began in 2007 when his high school band director took him to his first jazz gig.  From that moment on, Steed developed a passion for music that still fuels his performances today.  Since then, Steed has enjoyed performing freelance work all over Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.  He has played in bands backing artists such as Terrell Stafford, Bill Watrous, Tom “Bones” Malone, and Sim Flora.  Steed currently performs with the Edmond Jazz Orchestra, Edmond Christian Jazz Orchestra, The Al Good Orchestra, the Bret Steed Combo and many other various groups.

Steed’s debut jazz album, entitled “Bring It!,” was released in May of 2016.  “Bring It!” consists of a collection of Steed’s own original music.  Steed recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered his album at the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab.

Steed currently maintains a busy performance and teaching schedule, always striving to share his gifts with others.
